How Your Living Space Can Be Lifted With Colour

How to use colour to enhance your home

As we slowly approach spring and get closer to the clocks going forward, daylight hours are increasing, which is good news for our homes as it means they receive more natural light.

You don’t need to just rely on natural light though for your home to be brightened up inside and outside as you can always use colour for the same effect.

Perplexed as to how it can be done? Pennine has three great approaches you can take to impactfully employ colour.

Coloured windows & doors

At some point in your life, you will have seen with your own eyes just how powerful colour can be. There may have been an occasion where it lifted your mood or made a bold impression.

To focus in on your living room, we suggest that you request a vibrant finish for any windows and doors, or if you’re happy with your existing windows, give them a new treatment, such as fresh patterned curtains or eye-catching blinds.

White lacks the warmth that you get with a red hue, like Mahogany, a fantastic finish for the winter months, as you await the dawn of spring and return of improved weather.

Colourful paint

A pot of paint and paintbrush might be all you need to liven up things. Giving an old chest of drawers, TV stand or feature wall a fresh, new coat in something away from a cream, magnolia or ivory can often make a huge difference.

Do your best to avoid any brash colours or colours that clash – steer clear of putting a sky blue sofa next to a bright yellow wall, for instance.

Take a look at the full colour wheel and try and identify colours that go together. Those that are adjacent to each other are normally pretty harmonious.

If you are in two minds about a certain colour, you could always experiment with it to see whether it works or not, doing so with things like cushions, throws, blankets, rugs etc.

At least then it will be easy to change colour if it doesn’t achieve what you want it to and you can revert to an alternative colour without it taking too much time or money.
