5 Home Improvements You Should Consider This Autumn / Winter

Pennine is of course on hand and ready to help you achieve whatever you have in mind. However, if you’re stuck for ideas of how to create a better home before the year is out, we have a few suggestions up our sleeve.

Fit a solid roof to your old conservatory

Do you get to use your conservatory in autumn / winter as much as you used to? If it has a traditional glass or polycarbonate roof, the likelihood is that you don’t due to it feeling far too cold.

This can be resolved without you knocking down the structure and building a more thermal efficient replacement. All you need to do is replace the existing roofing system with a solid roof, something that can be done in a matter of days. Solid roofs can be crafted to fit any sort of conservatory style.

Invest in energy efficient windows

If this winter is anything like last winter, prepare yourself for a frosty few months! Check that your existing windows aren’t enabling the weather to get in and causing excess heat loss, otherwise you’ll be feeling the cold indoors.

Huge energy savings and a consistently cosy abode is assured when you replace your current windows for double or triple glazed windows with the highest window energy rating you can afford.

Clean and clear your roofline

The term ‘roofline’ refers to your fascias, soffits, bargeboards, antefixes and cladding. Their purpose is to protect the outside of your home from the elements and potential damage (leakages).

Any dirt, moss and fallen leaves should be removed from your guttering so that rain water can flow through it freely. Conduct a thorough inspection to check that all parts of your roofline are also rot and decay-free. If you find any problems, don’t be tempted to resort to temporary fixes, such as fitting capping boards over rotting timber. Instead, install low-maintenance, weather-resistant UPVC roofline.

Change your boiler

Nobody wants a boiler breakdown in the middle of a cold snap, but that’s what you’re risking if you fail to get your boiler serviced annually by a qualified engineer.

A boiler service will identify any potential issues and may also highlight the need for a replacement boiler. Indeed, the boiler you currently have may not be offering a high level of thermal efficiency and would better of being replaced with a more efficient boiler. The cost of buying a new boiler will pay off in the long-term.

Update your internal décor

The inside of your house should complement the time of year, so switch things up a little bit and incorporate the most fashionable home interior trends for autumn / winter 2018.

Navy is set to be the most popular colour choice and you can find all sorts of soft furnishings in this classic colour from cushions and throws to rugs and a host of fabrics. Sustainable and homemade homewares and furniture are also set to be much sought after as people make more of an effort to purchase eco-friendly items and items with that personal touch.
