How You Can Measure Up For New Windows And Doors

We haven’t experienced any drop-off of interest in our window and door range during lockdown, but it makes sense as spending all this time indoors will have made a lot of householders realise they need new windows and doors.

White Bay Windows

A high number of window and door orders are being placed when customers are using our FREE Online Appointment Service and on a video-call with a Pennine consultant.

Now obviously, because of the current restrictions, it isn’t possible for us to send out a member of our fitting team to measure up for the addition of new windows and doors. But that’s a temporary barrier that can be broken by YOU if replacement windows and doors are on your wishlist.

By that, we mean that you will be able to measure up yourself and it’s simpler than you may think to do it.

Here’s how to take some rough window and door measurements and also some advice on how best to get the right windows and doors.

Windows

  • Using a tape measure, go brick-to-brick when measuring the width and height of your windows, and record the measurements in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • When you accept a window quote and once it’s safe for us to visit, we will measure the windows properly, so don’t worry if the measurements you give are a bit off.
  • Choose your preferred window material – UPVC or aluminium.
  • Choose your preferred window design and colour.
  • If you’re happy having a similar window design, send us a photograph of one of your existing windows.
  • If you have window shopped online and seen a particular design you like, share a picture of it with us.

Doors

  • Using a tape measure, go brick-to-brick when measuring the width of your door and brick-to-floor when measuring its height, and record the measurements in metric or imperial units.
  • Please let us know if you would prefer your new door to open inwards or outwards.
  • Look at your door from the outside and let us know if it is hinged on the left or right-hand side.
  • Choose your preferred door material – UPVC, composite, solid timber.
  • If you’re happy having a similar door design, send us a photograph of your existing door.
  • If you have seen a door design online that you particularly like, share a picture of it with us.
