Extend Your Front Entrance With A Porch

Several things usually capture our attention when visiting someone’s home for the first time; the neighbourhood itself, the people that live in the area, the appearance of their garden and the condition of their front entrance. It’s hard to look past a front entrance that falls down on several counts such as the door looking old.

Replacement Windows & Porch

If you have concerns that your front entrance could do with a little “tarting” up, you should enhance and extend it at the same time with the installation of an elegant porch.

Permitted Development Rights enable you to fit a porch that meets the following criteria:

  • The internal ground floor area does not exceed three square metres
  • No part of the porch is more than three metres above ground level
  • No part of the porch is within two metres of any boundary of the dwelling and the highway.

To abide by Building Regulations it must measure no more than thirty square metres internally, so this all gives you plenty of space to grow your entrance.

Making a porch a permanent fixture in your house could also be more practical than say fitting a conservatory if space is tight at the back of the property.

Any future guests or buyers (if you ever decide to sell) cannot fail to be impressed by the sight of a meticulously integrated porch.

The money you spend on a porch will prove hugely cost-effective when you consider the other benefits it offers:

Security

Fitting a porch will minimise the risk of someone breaking into your house as the modern porch contains a host of secure mechanisms including dog bolts, a multi-point locking system and a number of anti-bump/snap cylinders.

Energy efficiency

Do you feel a cold draught coming through your entrance during the winter? The weather will be sealed off as the UPVC / aluminium frames and energy efficient glass utilised in a porch design will improve comfort levels and halt heat loss.

Storage

As well as providing a beautiful passage indoors, porches come in useful for storing certain things, typically stuff like shoes, coats, hats, scarves etc. This will free up lots of space in the rest of the house.
