Orangeries vs Conservatories

Many North East homeowners continue to be priced out of the housing market which is an inconvenience but an inconvenience that can be overcome if their incentive for selling is a shortage of space in their existing property.

Orangery & Extension Combined

We are referring to the installation of a home extension, whether that happens to be a brand new orangery or conservatory.

What aspiring home extension buyers usually want to know is which of the two is best. Whilst we couldn’t give a definitive answer to that question, one admittedly may complement your home and personal requirements better than the other.

Find out if spending your money on an orangery or conservatory is likely to be the wisest investment after reading our short guide to both options.

Orangeries

Gable Front Orangery

You can identify an orangery by its solid brick pillars, large glazed areas, brick or stone base and lantern roof. It also has less than 75% glass in said roof.

Walk into any orangery and you will love the light, airy feel of the structure and all credit for that goes to the expansive roof.

Orangeries come supplied in different arrangements depending on your needs and provide exceptional thermal efficiency throughout their lengthy lifespan, particularly if they come ready-fitted with a tiled roof covering.

Conservatories

P Shaped Gable Conservatory

Conservatories originally served a very different purpose to what they do nowadays. They were places where citrus fruits would be grown during the coldest months of the year.

Most modern conservatories feature a glass or solid roof containing more than 75% glass within them and have brick walls.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to conservatory styles as there are countless of them available (Edwardian, Victorian, Gable, Lean-To, P-Shaped etc. or you can even design your own). Though they differ in looks, they will all make your home significantly larger and increase the resale value of your house.

How do you want to use your home extension?

Orangeries and conservatories can be utilised as anything from a sophisticated dining area to a playroom for the kids.

Just make your intentions known to the designers beforehand and they will fashion an orangery or conservatory design that perfectly caters for them, making deciding between the two structures a little easier.
